There is a clean division between the 80s and 90s, with regards in the bands I played in during that time. In the former, I played bass and guitar in several cover bands, most of which drew decent-size crowds. Of the bands represented in this collection, 3RSG and Savage Gulf would be in this category. Dog & Bone and Living Room Combo had two public gigs apiece. The rest of that decade was recording projects and jam sessions.
When I moved to Hartford in 1990, I was still up for playing live, but this time it would be dedicated to original music. I.Q. Bonehead had two gigs, and The Venerable Beads played about sixteen shows. This averages out to about three gigs a year, which is not particularly helpful in building the kind of momentum you need as a live act; and while we had some fans, the number was quite modest.
It's fair to say that I'm terrible at self-promotion, and I'm more interested in recording than performing… and I'm naive, and I'm susceptible to prolonged periods of laziness. I still think I'm a pretty good songwriter. This website is a chance to be proven wrong, and perhaps to give a little more exposure to the performers with whom I have had the privilege of playing music.
