Bonehead experience pretty well, so it might be worth checking that out. I concluded with “And sooner or later, I’ll get around to plundering the rehearsal tapes.” Well, I finally got around to it, and here it is. Actually, there are plenty of good jams of IQB classics that I left off this release. After going through all the tapes, I noticed that there were quite a few songs that were not on the Barely Almost studio recording, the live CD Weird Kharma (Vol. 7) or among the other IQB cuts scattered across Volumes 5, 7 and 11. I decided on this collection to feature those tracks: songs that we rehearsed and were considered for our set lists but either never made it or were omitted from previous live releases. So now forty songs from our repertoire are available for the world (and I say that like it’s a good thing). In addition to the twelve “new” songs, three others are included here. Two of them—”Help Me” and “Just a Thought”—were recorded in the studio by IQB, though Larry did not play on either. The other quasi-redundancy, “Caffeine Rap”, was on the live CD in the “Bob Seger” version, not the funky LRC rap version (and I use the word “rap” very loosely). Six of the songs here are heard elsewhere in the foggy realm. Four of these already exist as studio versions (including “Primer Verse” which I just recorded last year); the other two were heard heretofore only as incomplete instrumental jams. “Serious Subject,” in fact, was two separate jams: the intro/middle jam was covered by Savage Gulf [Memphis], and the end jam by Living Room Combo. That leaves six rookies: three of mine, two written by Larry, and a Fred song that originally was recorded in the studio by Savage Gulf but discarded from the posted Grundy County Line, basically because we sped through it real sloppy-like. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
